Perurail have just announced they will cease to operate this train at the end of April 2017. This fantastic journey could be considered one of the great train journeys of the world.
However, it is unlikely that the train will cease altogether. I have been told unofficially that it will be taken over by Belmond and renovated to the level of the Hiram Bingham train, which runs between Cusco and Machu Picchu. This change while probably increasing the price beyond the budget of some, would be a fitting addition to the repertoire of luxury travel that Belmond offers both in Peru and beyond the world.
Perennial says further announcements will be made later in May or June 2016. We look forward with excitement to their announcement.0
