A flexible day mountain biking in Cusco amidst beautiful surroundings
Footprints Guide describes this Cusco mountain biking tour as “One of the finest one-day trips in Peru.” We tend to agree. This Cusco mountain bike ride has it all, from unique Inca sites to stunning mountain views. Quiet flat farmland trails to blazing-fast single-track. Whether expert or beginner, this is one day’s biking you will never forget. Can be paired with a Lake Huaypo water sport, cooking class, or traditional Andean Pachamanca Lunch
Bike Maras Moray is one of the classics of mountain biking in Peru. Fantastic views, fast descents and fascinating insights into local culture make this a day you will remember. Do not worry; you do not have to be an ace racer to enjoy it. Your expert guide will show you all you need to know and with the help of the latest full-suspension bikes, you will be cruising the trails in no time.
A short drive takes you to the start point amongst the fields of the Chinchero plateau. Potatoes, beans, corn, kiwicha, and quinoa combine their colours to lend a patchwork effect to this very traditional agricultural area. With a constant backdrop of the snow-capped Urubamba range, this is a photographer’s dream.
The riding starts gently on mainly flat trails. Soon a few small uphills punctuate the route to Moray where you can jump off the bikes and visit these unique Inca ruins. Very different from anything else you will see, the concentric circle terracing is thought to have been used as an early agricultural laboratory. The different depths and aspects allowed by the circular terracing helped the Incas predict what crops might grow where. When you finish your tour of the site lunch will be set up and waiting for you.
After lunch, it is all downhill. 750 metres or 2500 feet of fantastic single track. While some parts are tricky, with the help and encouragement of your guides you will arrive at the salt pans of Maras. Still mined by hand you could even take some home as a souvenir.
Included: English-speaking guide, transport, equipment, bike, helmet, gloves, lunch, entrance fee to saltpans.
Please add 35 U$ pp to cover entrances if not already holding a valid tourist ticket.
Add 40 U$ if Sacred Valley pick up is required
