A classic rail journey to Lake Titicaca
Extend your trip with a visit to Lake Titicaca. Famous as the birthplace of the Incas it’s the highest navigable lake in the world and a must for anyone wishing to see Peru’s highlights.
You ride one of the great train journeys of the world to get to Puno. Then next day you visit the Uros reed islands and Taquile Island to meet and learn about the Aymara people and their culture. Lake Titicaca sits at 3812m/ 12507ft; so you need to be acclimatised first.
This morning you are picked up from your hotel to board the luxury all-day train from Cusco across altiplano to Puno. This is one of the “Great Train journeys of the World”. The waiter service and entertainment is everything you would expect from the Orient Express.
On arrival in Puno a private vehicle will pick you up from the train station in Puno and transfer you to your hotel for your stay on the shores of Lake Titicaca.
Included: transport, train ticket, lunch, hotel
You board a shared fast boat for a cruise on Lake Titicaca where your own private guide fully explains the local history, traditions and agricultural methods as you visit the amazing floating reed islands of Uros.
Next you journey to Taquile Island, famous for its UNESCO protected weaving culture. You will lunch here and if you wish, can climb to the top of the island for wonderful views across Lake Titicaca.
You then board the boat to head back to Puno and your hotel.
Included: breakfast, entrance fees, transport, boat ticket, lunch, hotel
Depending on your flight time, you can visit the pre-Inca burial towers of Silustani, before travelling on to Juliaca airport for your flight.
Included: breakfast transport
In order to fully enjoy your trip it is very important that you choose the right trip for you and fully understand what it involves.
There are risks inherent in travelling in Peru, as indeed there are in most of the activities that we provide. Many of the activities we offer also involve a significant level of effort on your part. After all, it is called Adventure Travel for a reason.
It is really important that you read both the trip notes above and the Risk and Safety Section on our website, to enable you to choose the best trip for you. Once you have read them both, please make sure you ask if there is anything you do not understand. We classify this trip as:
Cultural… This trip does not involve any particularly physical level of activity, but just being in Peru can have its own challenges. Your trip may involve being at altitude which can take some people a bit of time to get used to. Much of it will take place outdoors where you can be exposed to weather conditions. Many of the places you visit have uneven ground and sets of steps. Most of Peru is very well set up for tourists, over one million people successfully visit Machu Picchu each year, but it is important to understand that it is not quite like being at home.
We create safe, responsibly run adventures in Cusco and the Sacred Valley for lovers of the great outdoors. We are a Certified B Corps and hold all Adventure Licenses for the activities we offer.
