A Reminder of Lima’s Past
Villa Barranco was built in the 1920s Belle Epoque era as a coastal retreat for a wealthy Lima family. It was designed by the same architect as Peru’s Presidential Palace, and in 1987, it was declared a national monument. Villa Barranco opened as a hotel in 2017, after extensive restoration.
Full of Conversation Pieces
Villa Barranco’s rooms are full of individual character. The floor tiles come from Cusco and the faucets and sinks from Italy. The hotel’s eclectic mix of furniture is a series of conversation pieces, collected over the years by one of the owners. Suites come with a large bathtub and a personal balcony or garden.
Villa Barranco: Redefining Luxury
Owner Patricio Zucconi said, “We knew how to do luxury but didn’t want to do that.” The staff dress casually, and Zucconi and his wife Silvia spend the day talking with guests. You can take breakfast in the garden or join others at the large wooden table. There is coffee on tap, a lounge with comfortable couches, and plenty to read. This is a place to slow down, recharge and enjoy good company. That is the luxury here. It is a far cry from the starched white uniforms of the five-star properties Zucconi used to manage, and long way from their prices.
