Amazonas Explorer (AE) is aware that some of our trips carry risks that are inherent within the activity. For example, it is impossible to go Mountain Biking or Rafting without any element of risk. It would be unprofessional and irresponsible to try to persuade you otherwise.

Set out below is what we do to manage these risks so that we minimize the likelihood of an accident and ensure that you are aware of the true ‘nature’ of the trip we hope you book with us!

  • We engaged the services of a ‘Technical Expert’, to oversee the management of ‘Risk and Safety’ here at Amazonas Explorer. The combination of our existing policies and attitudes and the input of new ideas from outside the company and outside Peru ensure that we continue to be at the forefront of Safety AND Adventure in Peru.
  • Our trip notes are carefully written to help you understand the true ‘nature’ of the trip you are thinking of booking.
  • Our booking process should clearly confirm what you are signing up for.
  • Your joining instructions should clearly lay out what you need to do prior to the trip.
  • At any point feel free to get in touch and ask us about any concerns you may have.
  • Participation Statement -At AE we ask everyone to ‘sign’ a ‘Participation Statement’ (done as part of the booking process). This is not done in an attempt to disclaim any liability; it is done to ensure that everyone knows that many of our activities are ‘Assumed Risk’ activities.
  • Under 18s consent form… AE recognises that ‘risk’ is an adult concept and as such we have an even higher duty of care for those under 18. With this in mind we ask Parents/guardians to sign a ‘Parental Consent’ form – essentially the same as the ‘Participation Statement’, but signed on behalf of the under 18.
  • Generic and specific risk assessments – If you wish to see a copy of the relevant risk assessments for your trip, then please ask.
  • Equality and vulnerable persons policy – At Amazonas Explorer we understand that everyone is different. Everyone has different needs and relates to situations in different ways. We also understand that everyone has the right to dignity and access to the same level of care, enjoyment and satisfaction, regardless of anything!
  • External Services Policy – Where AE uses ‘external’ services, we have a policy that these services will be inspected. To ensure that they meet our standards. If you require more details, please ask.
  • Equipment protocols – We take our equipment very seriously at AE. We provide quality equipment. Our stores have a stringent protocol to ensure that you are provided with safe, appropriate and well maintained equipment. Details are available if you require.
  • Transport policy – At AE we ensure that any transport we use meets our stringent standards which are over and above the  Peruvian legal standards.
  • Altitude – It is important to remember that many of our trips start at altitude. ‘Most’ people feel the effects of the height for the first day or so (and often longer). With this in mind it is important that you factor in time to acclimatise, drink plenty of water, rest. Enjoy the opportunity to do little for a day or so! If your symptoms persist – Headache, dizziness, shortness of breath – or get worse – then let us know ASAP!
  • All of our trips are managed by a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). This ensures both quality and safety. A copy of the relevant SOP for your trip(s) are available of you wish.
  • All AE trips have an associated Emergency Operations Procedure (EOP). The EOP’s have been written (under guidance) by the staff who run them. So the plans are realistic and understood by the trip leaders. If you would like to see the pro forma the staff worked to, or a copy of the EOP for your trip(s), then feel free to get in touch.
  • We employed a Chief Instructor – Their role is oversee all practical aspects of your safety; equipment, staff training, staff induction, quality assurance, etc.
  • AE Staff induction – All our staff have gone through our induction process. This induction process covers:

  • Campcraft
  • Hygiene
  • Safety
  • Professionalism
  • Policies (paperwork)
  • Training and development needs
  • We operate a Quality Assurance scheme for staff
