Why you should book the One-day Apurimac with Amazonas Explorer
The Original and the Best – Running The Apurimac since 1985
We have been rafting the Apurimac river for over forty years, and have well over five hundred successful descents to our credit. We pioneered the 1Day Apurimac Rafting back in 2017 as well as offering 2, 3 and 4 day trips on the Black and Granite canyons for those with more time.

Safety first:
At the heart of all our rafting trips is safety. Our trips include an expert bi-lingual registered raft guide, a professional safety kayaker to help if you fall in, and usually an additional gear raft to double up on safety, and to carry lunch. Skipping on safety might save a few pennies until it goes wrong. Should anything happen, you’ll be thankful you chose us.
Safety is also off the river as well; Our vehicles are designed to drive these treacherous roads, all are licensed to carry tourists, have insurance and are regularly maintained. Our drivers are the best and safest in the industry. The road in and out of the Apurimac is not to be messed with.

We take the river slowly:
You are probably only going to raft the Apurimac once in your life, so do it in style.
Take your time and don’t rush down without stopping. Once fully trained and ready, take the rapids at your own pace. Stop to canyoneer to a nearby waterfall. Travel slowly and spot condors, otters and deer. Enjoy an incredible lunch and a cold beer whilst relaxing on a pristine sandy beach, deep in the middle of the 3000m deep canyon. This is not a river to try and get down as fast as possible, just to try and save a few pennies on logistics.

We have the best guides in the industry:
All our guides have years of Peruvian and international rafting experience. They are Swiftwater Rescue-trained and have up to date Wilderness Advanced First Aid qualifications. They are quite simply the best on the river, speak fluent English and Spanish, and are a lot of fun to be with too!
We have the best guides because we pay and treat them well. As Peru’s 1st travel B-Corp, we put People and Planet before Profit, ensuring fair pay and correct working conditions for all our staff.

State of the Art Equipment:
Our life jackets, wetsuits, splash jackets and helmets are the best in the industry, and we make sure they fit you correctly. We provide thermal tops, wetsuit boots and towels to ensure you stay warm on and off the river. Dry boxes and waterproof bags are available to carry your phones and valuables. We have portable changing rooms and toilets at the put-in and take-out for your convenience. We are constantly updating our gear to ensure it is in the best condition and the best available.

Great Food:
Our food isn’t just a hasty sandwich. En route, we include a fine breakfast with freshly brewed coffee at a spectacular view overlooking the canyon below. We include healthy snacks and a buffet lunch of delicious fresh produce on a remote beach, deep in the midst of the 3000m deep canyon. Not rushed in a dusty car park at the take out. We’ll also have some ice-cold beers, soft drinks and drinking water to fill your bottle with.
And time to sit and enjoy it. You cannot rush good food in an amazing location.

Working with the local communities to keep the roads open:
We paid for the building of the road into the river. Twice, in fact, after it collapsed a few years ago! We pay and work with the local communities near the river to ensure the upkeep of the roads into and out of the canyon. No other company does this.
Private Trips:
We only offer private expeditions on this river so you can enjoy the canyon on your own, with your friends or as a family and with your very own guides. Thus, we have a high guide-to-passenger ratio, which means you are in safe hands throughout the trip.

We are actually registered to run rafting trips:
Unlike other rafting operators, we are actually licensed by MINCETUR to operate Rafting and Kayaking trips and have successfully held this qualification for many years.
Don’t believe us? Check the MINCETUR website and see what activities each company is licensed to operate.
10. Need more proof?
For the past few years, we have been recognised by CALTUR as the Best Adventure Operator in Cusco. In 2025, we won the prestigious GERCETUR Qori Qente prize for Quality, Sustainability and Innovation and were awarded the best Adventure Travel Agency in Cusco.
- And finally, there’s our Positive Impact Fund
