We take the luxury Orient Express style train journey to Puno, this ten-hour trip over the high Altiplano is fascinating with entertainment and a delicious lunch aboard. One of the great train journeys of the World. then spend a night at a lakeside hotel in Puno.
We take a boat on Lake Titicaca – the largest high-altitude body of water in the world. It is 190km long and 80km wide and straddles the Peru-Bolivia border. It is home to the floating islands of Uros, and the more orthodox islands of Taquile and Amantaní as well as many endemic species of fish and frogs. The panoramas of the crystal clear blue water under the snow-capped distant mountains are breathtaking. We stay overnight with a family on Amantani Island for a unique experience.
The following day we re-board the boat for a visit to Taquille Island before returning to Puno and our hotel for the night. Finally, we have a tour of the fascinating Silustani burial chambers and transfer to Juliaca airport.

This morning you will board the luxury all-day train from Cusco across the high plains to Puno. This is one of the “Great Train journeys of the World”. The waiter service and entertainment are everything you would expect of the ‘Orient Express’ service. On arrival in Puno, you are met at the train station and transferred to your Puno hotel.
Amantani Family homestay on Lake Titicaca.
With your private guide, you board your private boat on Lake Titicaca. Your guide will explain the local history, traditions and agricultural methods as you visit the amazing floating reed islands of Uros and onto Amantani Island for lunch.
Here you will be allocated your family homestay and once settled in, if you wish, you can attempt a tough climb to the top of the island to be rewarded by spectacular views of Lake Titicaca and an amazing sunset.
You then return to your family for dinner. Whilst the accommodation is fairly basic, the experience of staying with a family is truly amazing and a great chance for a unique cultural exchange.
Taquile Island tour:
From Amantani you take the boat across the sapphire waters to Taquile Island, famous for its beautiful weaving, friendly people and great hiking opportunities.
You will have lunch in a typical restaurant before returning to Puno and transferring back to your hotel.
Transfer to Juliaca Airport via Silustani:
Four hours before your flight your guide and transport will collect you for your transfer to Juliaca airport.
En route, we visit the fascinating pre-Inca burial site at Silustani. The tombs are built above the ground in tower-like structures called ‘chullpas’. Some contained entire groups of extended Aymara families. The only openings in the buildings face East, where they believed the sun is reborn by ‘mother-earth’ every morning. This beautiful site overlooks the crystal blue waters of Lake Umayo. Your guide will explain the full history and recent findings.
Your guide will then escort you to the airport and help you check in for your onward flight.
